Starfield release time, date, pre-load, file-size and how to get early access

After years of waiting, the release of Bethesda’s space-based role-playing game Starfield is just hours away. Starfield has a September 1 release date on Xbox Series X/S and PC – but only for early access customers. If you want early access to the game, then you’ll need to pre-oder the Premium Edition or the Constellation Edition on Xbox or PC. Provided you’ve purchased the correct version, Starfield has a 1am BST launch time for UK fans. You can pre-order the Premium Edition at a discounted price by clicking the links below. If you don’t have early access, then Starfield will be available on September 6.

Get Starfield Premium Edition for just £65.99 compared to £89.99 you’ll need to pay on Steam and other digital platforms.

Not only that, but you’ll be able to start playing the game 5 days before everyone else. Premium Edition includes other bonus items too.

If you want the Xbox edition, make sure you choose the Xbox option on CDKeys

Grab Starfield Premium Edition on Xbox for just £72.99 compared to the full £99.99 price tag.

You’ll be able to play the game 5 days early and enjoy all the extra as mentioned above.

Of course, if you want to start playing the moment the game goes live, then you’ll need to pre-load Starfield ahead of launch.

Pre-loading is currently available on Xbox and PC, which means pre-order customers can download the game now.

It’s definitely worth downloading early, because the Starfield file size is absolutely huge.

The game weighs in at around 126GB on Xbox Series X and Series S, compared to around 86GB on Steam.

Even if you have pre-loaded Starfield, Bethesda has released a day-one patch, so you might want to check your version is up to date before playing.

The 15.6GB day-one patch makes a variety of gameplay and visual fixes that will ensure you don’t lose your progression.

Starfield update 1.7.23 also makes a handful of performance and stability fixes that will lead to a smoother experience.

This includes a fix for an issue when suspending and resuming the game on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S.

The file size and release of a day-one patch isn’t particularly surprising, especially considering how ambitious Starfield is.

Indeed, players will be able to explore thousands of planets as part of a galaxy-spanning adventure.

“In this next generation role-playing game set amongst the stars, create any character you want and explore with unparalleled freedom as you embark on an epic journey to answer humanity’s greatest mystery,” reads the official description.

“The year is 2330. Humanity has ventured beyond our solar system, settling new planets, and living as a spacefaring people.”

If you’re playing the game on PC, then you can see the PC requirements below.
