Valheim Sells An Incredible Three Million Copies In Less Than Three Weeks

We all knew it was going to happen, but now it’s official – Valheim has crossed the three million units sold threshold. Developer Iron Gate made the announcement on Steam earlier today, thanking all its supporters and sharing a few of its accolades.

Valheim was inching close to that coveted three million mark a few days ago, and it didn’t take long to finally cross it. The survival game has become an instant success – not only is it selling well, but everyone who gets their hands on the game seems to love everything it has to offer.

“This February has been truly wild,” reads the announcement from Iron Gate. “Less than three weeks into Early Access, we’ve already hit another milestone. Valheim has now been purchased by over three million brave Vikings looking to survive the 10th world of the Yggdrasil – or die trying – probably crushed by a falling tree.”

The post then goes on to describe the game’s many achievements, including:

  • Over 60,000 ‘Overwhelmingly Positive’ reviews
  • Officially entered the Steam’s Top 250 best-reviewed games of all time (Currently sitting at 78)
  • Currently 7th most streamed game on twitch, surpassing CS:GO, Dota 2, Minecraft, and Rust
  • Over 20 million hours of gameplay already watched

For a game with little marketing, those are some impressive figures. No doubt all that Twitch streaming is helping boost its numbers, as we saw a similar phenomenon with Rust earlier this year. After years of being on the market, Rust’s popularity received a massive boost when a few prominent streamers began broadcasting the game on Twitch.

The same is now happening with Valheim – the only difference is this one launched just a few weeks ago. Iron Gate has big plans for the rest of 2021, and as the game slowly climbs out of Early Access it’ll be interesting to see how it changes.

Valheim is currently available on PC. There are no plans to bring the title to consoles, although the developer remains open to the possibility.
