The Best Anime Deals Of Amazon Prime Day 2020

Amazon Prime Day is here, which normally would entail an avalanche of anime deals to talk about. Unfortunately, that’s not really the case this year–there are far fewer than what we’ve seen in the past. However, there are some notable standouts worth pointing out, and, of course, simply having Amazon Prime Video nets you access to some truly phenomenal anime, such as Vinland Saga and Wotakoi: Life is Hard for Otaku.

From now through Wednesday, we’ll be on the lookout for any new Amazon Prime Day anime deals and add the best ones to this guide. In the meantime, if you’ve got cash in your wallet that you’re looking to burn, we’ve rounded up the Prime Day anime deals that are available right now, as well as anime deals available today that you can find elsewhere, like Rightstuf’s Optimus 2-Day Sale.

Amazon Prime Day Anime Deals

Alrighty, let’s start with why y’all are here. Like we said before, it’s unusually slim pickings–Funimation is the big anime seller on Amazon, and it doesn’t seem to be participating in Prime Day this year. But there are still a few deals worth shouting out, which are listed below.

Cowboy Bebop: The Complete Series

$18 (was $29)

One of the few anime series to be widely regarded as a certified classic, Cowboy Bebop follows the misadventures of space bounty hunter Spike Spiegel and his crew. The series is commonly sourced as one of the shows that drew western audiences into anime in the late ’90s. This Blu-ray includes both the original Japanese audio with English subtitles and the English dub.

Samurai Champloo: The Complete Series

$20 (was $23)

Samurai Champloo takes the Japan’s Edo-era and turns it on its head, infusing the time period with a heavy dose of hip-hop visuals and music. The series follows Fuu, a 15-year-old girl who befriends and saves two samurai who are polar opposites of each other: the unconventional and brash Mugen and traditional and stoic Jin. Feeling indebted to Fuu, both Mugen and Jin agree to travel with her in search of a mysterious samurai. This Blu-ray includes both the Japanese and English audio, and provides English subtitles.

Teasing Master Takagi-san: The Complete Series

$16 (was $23)

A slice-of-life anime, Teasing Master Takagi-san is about the titular Takagi, a young girl who constantly teases her classmate Nishikata, much to his annoyance. Though he continuously tries to get her back with his own jokes, sarcasm, and schemes, he repeatedly fails to get the same rise out of her that she always manages to get out of him. This Blu-ray includes both the English and Japanese audio, and features the option for English subtitles.

Mirai

$12 (was $15)

Mirai is best experienced without too much prior knowledge as to its plot, so we’ll try to be as vague as possible. In the broadest terms, the movie is about a young boy struggling to connect with his sister, only to get the chance to meet and talk with her from a brand-new perspective. This Blu-ray includes both the English and Japanese audio, and features both English and Spanish subtitles.

Rightstuf Optimus 2-Day Anime Deals

If you expand your search to other anime retailers, you’ll find a few more deals. Rightstuf doesn’t have too many discounted titles for its Optimus 2-Day Sale, but like Amazon, there are a few notable gems.

The Pet Girl of Sakurasou: Complete Collection

$54 (was $90)

After adopting a stray cat and failing to keep it hidden in his dorm, high school student Sorata is forced to move into Sakura Hall–the place where all troublesome students have to live. It’s here that he meets several rambunctious characters, including artist Mashiro. Though incredibly talented at painting, Mashiro struggles with everyday tasks, forcing Sorata to help her grow acclimated to high school and normal life. This Blu-ray includes both the Japanese and English audio, plus the English subtitles.

Perfect Blue

$19 (was $27)

Perfect Blue is one of the more well-known psychological anime horrors, telling the twisted tale of pop star Mima, who quits music to pursue acting and modeling. Her attempt to leave her cute girlish image behind for a more mature adult one isn’t a smooth process, though, especially when the people in her life start showing up murdered. The Blu-ray includes both English and Japanese audio options and features English subtitles.

Princess Principal: Complete Collection

$42 (was $70)

A mostly forgotten gem from 2017, Princess Principal helped propel streaming service Hidive, as the show was one of the streaming service’s first limited-time exclusives. The series follows the exploits of five spies trying to overthrow an empire–by day, they must act like high school girls, and by night, they take to the streets to engage in espionage, murder, and sabotage. This Blu-ray includes both the Japanese and English audio options, as well as English subtitles.

Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions: Ultimate Collection

$78 (was $130)

This collection includes all of Seasons 1-2, every OVA, and the movie–it’s the full package. The series primarily follows Yuta, a high school student who’s now embarrassed by his middle school days when he thought he was a lord of darkness. He thinks those days are far behind him but then his new upstairs neighbor draws him back into that world, forcing him to reconsider whether a teenager’s delusions of grandeur are actually as harmful as he initially thought. Same deal as most of these Blu-rays–you’re getting the English and Japanese audio, plus English subtitles.

Weathering With You

$21 (was $30)

In a loose narrative follow-up to Your Name, director Makoto Shinkai’s Weathering With You is another romantic comedy about two high school students who find a connection through a mysterious, supernatural power. And like Your Name, Weathering With You has a bangin’ soundtrack. If you like one, you’ll likely enjoy the other. Fair warning, though: Weathering With You ends on a bit more of a somber and ambiguous note than its predecessor.
