PS5 users experiencing major freezing bugs after only one day
Some PlayStation 5 owners are reporting issues with their consoles being unable to download games or freezing entirely during rest mode.
The PlayStation 5 has received mostly positive reviews from critics and fans alike and has been an undeniable success for Sony so far, now that it’s available outside of Europe.
However, only a day after its launch, some users are reporting some pretty major issues with their consoles.
According to IGN, a number of owners, including at least three staff members, have experienced some kind of bug that seems to prevent them from downloading games and apps.
What happens is, when attempting a download, the game or app in question will either suffer from a download error or be sent to the Downloads menu but not actually appear.
What’s worse is that, with the download stuck in limbo, you can’t cancel it or attempt to redownload it since the PlayStation 5 thinks you own it, even though the PlayStation 5’s store will still ask you to purchase it.
Apparently, this is something of a regular issue when downloading Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, which only released today, but there have been reports of the same bug occurring with other PlayStation 5 titles like Demon’s Souls and Sackboy: A Big Adventure.
If you’re suffering from this problem, the only solution proven to work is to perform a complete factory reset, which will require you to delete everything from your PlayStation 5 and effectively start over.
There have also been reports of the PS5’s rest mode freezing games. A Reddit thread that serves as tech support has advised that PlayStation 5 owners switch it off for the time being until Sony fixes it with a patch.
GamesRadar states that the unit it received for review purposes failed to keep some games suspended whilst in rest mode, but it has not suffered this problem since installing a day one update.
Sony has yet to comment on these bugs, but at least these have been caught sooner rather than later. Hopefully, they won’t be an issue once the console launches here in the UK.
For the record, we haven’t experienced any problems with our PlayStation 5 )or Xbox Series X), which we’ve had for several weeks now.
The Xbox Series X hasn’t been without problems after launch either. Earlier this week, some players complained that the console was having problems accepting discs.
There were also rumours of some Xbox units smoking due to overheating, but those turned out to be fake.
The PlayStation 5 will launch in the UK on November 19.
