PS5 stock may be even harder to come by in the next few weeks. That’s according to the @PS5StockAlertUK Twitter account who warned demand for the PS5 is expected to rise “drastically”. The demand for the PS5 – which has been hard to come by ever since it launched almost a year ago – is expected to rise as students head back to education and workers return from summer holidays.
The @PS5StockAlertUK Twitter account posted: “We expect demand to rise drastically after September due to students returning to education and employees returning back to work (those who are on holiday).”
While there’s an imminent threat of the PS5 console becoming even more sparse, fears have also been raised that the current stock shortages could continue for a few more years.
That’s according to Toshiba’s Takeshi Kamebuchi, who said the current PS5 stock shortage situation isn’t expected to change anytime soon.
Kamebuchi-san said supply constraints for chips used in the production of the PS5 are expected to continue for another year.
And in some cases customers may not be able to get hold of a PS5 until 2023.

Speaking to Bloomberg, the Yoshida director in charge of semiconductors said: “The supply of chips will remain very tight until at least September next year.
“In some cases, we may find some customers not being fully served until 2023.”
The latest PS5 stock news comes as Sony have announced a new PS5 event, which will give gamers even more reasons to pick up the latest PlayStation console.
The next PS5 event – dubbed the PlayStation Showcase – will be taking place on Thursday September 9.
The PS5 event will give a glimpse into what the future holds, with announcements from PlayStation Studios as well as “industry-leading” devs.
On Twitter the official PlayStation account posted: “Save the date!
“PlayStation Showcase 2021 broadcasts live next Thursday.
“Get a sneak peek at the future of PS5, with updates from PlayStation Studios and industry-leading devs. Hope to see you there!”
The next PlayStation event, which starts at 9pm BST, will last for around 40 minutes.
Some major announcements are rumoured for the event, including the first proper look at the next God of War game.
