PS5 could revive iconic PlayStation gem, but will PS4 get a release also?

PS5 gamers are waiting to find out more information from Sony on their highly anticipated follow-up to the PS4. So far Sony has been releasing tantalising tidbits of information about the PS4 successor ahead of a rumoured upcoming PS5 event. It had been expected that a PS5 reveal event would be taking place in February but according to the rumour mill this will now happen in March.

The PS5 event is expected to unveil the next-gen PlayStation for the first time as well as reveal details on games, pricing and the release date.

This is ahead of the PS5 hitting shelves later this year during the holiday period.

As fans wait for more details on the PS5 a leak could have revealed details on one game that will be arriving on the PS4 successor.

And it looks like an iconic series that featured on the original PlayStation will be making a return this year.

  • Big PS5 price and release date news set to surprise PlayStation 4 fans

As reported on in a post by TheSixthAxis, it looks like the return of the Tony Hawk series has been leaked.

Punk band The Death Set on Facebook claimed that they have licensed five new songs to the ‘Tony Hawk 2020 game’.

They teased that fans will be hearing this “soon” in a now deleted post.

No platforms were announced but, if the new Tony Hawk is out in 2020, then it wouldn’t be a surprise to see it launch on the PS5.

It remains to be seen if the new Tony Hawk game will arrive first on the PS4 before launching later in the year in the 2020.

Or if the new Tony Hawk game will launch on all platforms, or only on next-gen formats, towards the end of 2020.

  • PS4 News: TWO PS5 and Xbox X consoles releasing in the UK in 2020?

The Tony Hawk series of games were among the most iconic titles that featured on the original PlayStation.

The PS1 was home to the first two games in the series – Tony Hawk Pro Skater and Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2.

The skateboarding series went onto appear on the N64, Dreamcast, PS2, PS3, GameCube, Nintendo Wii and Xbox 360 as well as different handhelds.

The last game in the Tony Hawk series was Pro Skater 5 which was released on the Xbox One and PS4 back in 2015.

It’s unclear if the rumoured Tony Hawk game for 2020 is a new entry in the series or a remaster of a classic earlier title.

Last year reliable leaker Sabi, who correctly leaked tonnes of E3 2019 announcements, raised hopes of the possibility of a Tony Hawk remake.

In November they tweeted: “An Activision contact told me a week or so ago about how Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 and 2 had demos/prototypes remade.

“They went around internally. I didn’t share before as I wasnt sure if they were being remade as full games, or just a test”.

The news came after in 2018 Tony Hawk himself spoke about the future of the skateboarding game series.

Hawk posted on Twitter: “To anyone asking me to ‘remaster” old games, or complaining about THPS servers being down: Activision owns the THPS license but I am no longer working with them.

“If I had the skills / authority to reboot servers or code games for newer systems on my own, I would be happy to”.

It remains to be seen when Activision could announce this rumoured new Tony Hawk game, and when gamers will actually get to play it.

Activision are also rumoured to have two brand new Crash Bandicoot games in the works, one of which is a remaster of Wrath of Cortex.
