Nintendo Celebrates Star Wars Day with May the 4th Deals

As a celebration of fan-favorite holiday Star Wars Day, Nintendo is putting several popular Star Wars titles up for sale on the Nintendo Switch eShop. For the next three days, four titles about the epic space adventure are 50% off. Fans are very excited about this, but have been quick to draw attention to their left-out favorites.

Star Wars Day, so named because it’s May the 4th, has been a popular fandom holiday since 2011, when a group in Toronto, Canada organized a get-together for fans that included movie viewings, trivia games, and a costume contest. The holiday has since been taken up by fans around the world, and celebrated by members of the cast as well; Mark Hamill is well known for having a “May the Calendar” every year.

For their part, Nintendo is offering Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy, Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast, Star Wars Episode I Racer, and Star Wars Pinball for 50% off on the Nintendo Switch eShop, with the games starting at only $4.99. It’s not uncommon for companies to offer deals on Star Wars titles on May the 4th. This year, Stadia is offering Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order for free through its Pro service. Battlefront is also getting Steam Multiplayer support for the first time in years today.

Fans are excited to see this eShop sale. One Twitter user, Fabianskii, celebrated with the excellent subtle burn, “this is better than your lineup of games as of this year.” Many replied with some fantastic memes at Nintendo’s expense, and some replied making fun of choice to include Star Wars Pinball in the lineup, as most didn’t know it existed. There have also been some lighthearted jabs at the Racer game.

Others ask for their favorite Star Wars games from other platforms to get a spot in the eShop, with Lego Star Wars being a particular favorite. Another popular suggestion is the Star Wars Battlefront series, as well as Knights of the Old Republic.

Unfortunately, none of these titles yet have any announced plans for premiering on the console, so for now, fans are happy to play the games offered in the sale. The games will be on sale at these prices until Thursday, May 6, except for Star Wars Pinball, which will be available for half off until Friday, May 7.
