NieR’s 10th Anniversary Livestream Will Be 10 Hours Long

The NieR franchise’s 10th anniversary is rapidly approaching and fans of the beloved video game series have been eagerly awaiting and hoping for some form of celebration in honor of this milestone. Luckily for fans, Square Enix Japan has announced a major celebration to last ten full hours later this month. On March 29, a live NicoNico program will be held in honor of the anniversary, culminating in a stream lasting ten hours long.

The ten-hour event was announced in NieR Japan’s official Twitter page, in a tweet detailing the events of the stream. In total, the stream will feature three different broadcasts.

The first stream will include the NieR: Theatrical Orchestra 12020 performance, a theatrical concert that was originally planned to go up on March 28 and 29 in a live concert but was canceled at the end of February due to COVID-19 concerns. The second stream will broadcast a performance of the theatrical performance NieR Stage Yorha Ver1.3aa, a stage play based on the game. The show was also expected to run in Japanese movie theatres this past weekend but was also canceled due to the coronavirus. These two streams will be available on a pay-per-view basis.

The final stream will not be a performance; rather, it will be a “talk show” style presentation, featuring a discussion of the two abovementioned performances. Fans of the NieR franchise can also expect a discussion of the franchise’s long history and plans for the future. Square Enix has not yet announced hosts or any special guests for this talk show portion of the event. This part of the broadcast will be free for anyone who wants to tune in.

As mentioned in Square Enix’s tweet, all three streams will be broadcast on NicoNico, an online Japanese video-sharing service. Channel links will be made available as the broadcast date gets closer.

While it’s unfortunate that so many NieR events have been canceled in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s nice to see Square Enix finding creative ways to celebrate NieR with their fans from the safety of their own homes.

The ten-hour Nier 10th Anniversary Livestream will begin livestreaming on March 27. NieR: Automata is available now for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC devices.
