New PS5 release date and price prediction would be bad news for PS4 gamers

Predictions are being made in regards to when the PS5 price and release date will be announced by Sony. Some analysts are also looking at the longer picture and how current world events could create bottlenecks in hardware productions, which could lead to a shortage, or even a release delay. As many gamers will already know, Sony and Microsoft will be launching the PS5 and Xbox Series X consoles near the end of 2020.

Launch dates have not been confirmed yet by either company but we know for sure that both consoles are hitting shelves this year.

The stage will be for Sony to announce its plans for the PlayStation 5, which has yet to be revealed in full by the tech giant.

Some kind of reveal is expected to take place later this month, with expos like E3 2020 and GDC ruled out as possibilities.

But while there is growing excitement surrounding the launch of the PS5, there are some worrying trends that could shape the final release of the nex-gen gaming machines.

One issue being raised at the moment is the effect the Coronavirus could have on global tech production.

Warnings regarding shortages of some products have already started going out and a lot will depend on how big an impact the Coronavirus has worldwide.

Commenting on the effects it could have on the video games industry, Daniel Ahmad, senior analyst at Niko Partners, shared his own outlook.

This included the idea that the PS5 and Xbox Series X release dates could be pushed back in certain scenarios.

We’ve already seen certain companies pull out of certain events and the effect of the Coronavirus has also been felt in stock markets.

But a lot of what happens next is based on things that are currently only predictions, some of which will be seen as worst-case scenarios.

Speaking to the Hollywood Reporter, Ahmad explained: “If the coronavirus outbreak is contained within the next month or two then we would expect console manufacturers to be able to meet demand for the holiday quarter, both for current-gen consoles and next-gen console launches.

“If manufacturers are unable to operate at full capacity before the end of Q2 2020, we could see an impact on next-gen console launches, with either limited supply or delayed releases becoming the likely outcomes.”

So while there is a possibility of disruptions in the future, that doesn’t mean that it is the most likely outcome.

As mentioned above, GDC has now been cancelled, with a related event possibly being held during the Summer instead.

In a statement released this week, the GDC team confirmed: “After close consultation with our partners in the game development industry and community around the world, we’ve made the difficult decision to postpone the Game Developers Conference this March.

“Having spent the past year preparing for the show with our advisory boards, speakers, exhibitors, and event partners, we’re genuinely upset and disappointed not to be able to host you at this time.

“We want to thank all our customers and partners for their support, open discussions and encouragement.

“As everyone has been reminding us, great things happen when the community comes together and connects at GDC. For this reason, we fully intend to host a GDC event later in the summer.

“We will be working with our partners to finalize the details and will share more information about our plans in the coming weeks.”
