Legend of Zelda fans could get big Breath of the Wild 2 news soon
Nintendo gamers are gearing up for a bonanza of news regarding Switch games in 2020 and beyond. And while it’s not guaranteed, recent events could make it possible for us to learn more about The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild 2 project. There are currently two reasons why fans could be getting the big update they’ve been waiting for. The first is that Nintendo is reportedly hosting two Direct events before the end of March, and that would provide plenty of airtime to share news about BOTW 2.
Animal Crossing New Horizons is launching on March 20, meaning a Nintendo Direct being held just before it would make sense.
There are also other projects that have yet to be revealed but rumoured for the device that will need to be confirmed before they arrive.
A new eShop listing for Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition might also mean that something is being worked on in the future.
VentureBeat has also backed the company to hold a Nintendo Direct reveal before the end of March, explaining: “Nintendo is deep into the process of putting the event together based on what I’ve heard. It has decided many of the third-party games it will include in the event. So it’s definitely happening — and almost certainly before the end of March.”
Another point made by VentureBeat is that investors will want to know what Nintendo has planned for the rest of the year, with its fiscal year coming to an end on March 31.
A new Nintendo Switch Direct event would make it possible for the company to do this and then comment on it during a conference call.

But even if Nintendo does hold an event during March 2020, it doesn’t mean that there will be news regarding the Legend of Zelda franchise.
But we also know that Nintendo has a hole in its events schedule following the cancellation of E3 2020, among other expos.
There’s a chance that Nintendo could host its traditional E3 Live stream in June, or team up with the LA expo on something new.
A message from the ESA reveals that could happen, adding: “Following increased and overwhelming concerns about the COVID-19 virus, we felt this was the best way to proceed during such an unprecedented global situation.
“We are very disappointed that we are unable to hold this event for our fans and supporters. But we know it’s the right decision based on the information we have today.
“Our team will be reaching out directly to exhibitors and attendees with information about providing full refunds.
“We are also exploring options with our members to coordinate an online experience to showcase industry announcements and news in June 2020.”
The cancellation of E3 also frees Nintendo to decide when to share its big news during 2020, and that could include Zelda.
A recent leak claimed that Zelda Breath of the Wild 2 will have a release date of winter 2020.
And if this is true, Nintendo will probably want to start sharing more news regarding its big end-of-year release.
As with all rumours, it’s best to take them with a big pinch of salt until official confirmation.
Fans have already predicted that Zelda will be a playable character and that Breath of the Wild 2 will be out in late 2020.
This would give Nintendo a unique selling point for the Switch in the face of new competition from the PS5 and Xbox Series X which are out holiday 2020.
Whatever does happen in the coming months, fans are likely to hear more about Zelda Breath of the Wild 2, even if it doesn’t launch this year.
