Hearthstone’s Latest Demon Hunter Class Already Got Nerfed

Hearthstone‘s latest Ashes of Outland expansion brought a whole new Demon Hunter class into the game, effectively increasing the amount of classes players can choose from.

However, the new class proved to be far too powerful, so much so that its win rate completely outclassed the win rates of other classes. As a result, Blizzard decided to nerf some of Demon Hunter’s most powerful and important cards to make the game more balanced.

After the Demon Hunter class released, players took to Hearthstone‘s forums and other social media platforms to state how the class was far too unbalanced and extremely dominant when compared to other classes. For instance, with the ability to quickly draw cards, clear the board, and flood it with minions in a fast manner, surviving against the Demon Hunter class proved to be challenging, especially in late-game. Seeing how this is the very first class to be added into Hearthstone, it could have been difficult to predict how well it would do in competitive battles, and how players would utilize the key cards in various combinations and plays.

As a result of being too strong, the Demon Hunter class has already been nerfed by Blizzard. Upon receiving feedback about it, the company issued a quick server-side hotfix (in advance of a full balance patch that will be released at one point in the near future.) As part of the hotfix, Blizzard nerfed the class’s four important cards:

Skull of Gul’dan – Mana cost increased from 5 to 6.

Imprisoned Antaen – Mana cost increased from 5 to 6.

Eye Beam – Outcast Mana cost increased from 0 to 1.

Aldrachi Warblades – Durability decreased from 3 to 2.

Additionally, Blizzard has also reduced the offering rates for a number of Demon Hunter cards in Arena until it is able to correctly address the class with “more accurate micro-adjustments in a future patch.”

As previously stated, the hotfix is a quick solution to a problem that is very difficult to deal with. In the meantime, Blizzard will continue to monitor Demon Hunter’s effectiveness and keep adjusting it in such a way that it does not feel overly unbalanced, nor too powerful.

Ultimately, the company is trying to bring the Demon Hunter class ” […] to where we believe it should be.”
