Fortnite Pro FaZe Dubs Uses Racial Slur While Live On Twitch

FaZe Clan’s Danny “Dubs” Walsh used the N-word while streaming a game of Fortnite. The 16-year old was playing with a friend who was streaming Fortnite Creative Boxfights when he was heard uttering the slur before his friend quickly pointed out that they were live.

The Fortnite pro was heard saying the words,” f**king n*****”, and his friend that he was playing with responded by saying “Yo, I’m streaming,” and went on to say, “I’m streaming. I’m streaming. I’m streaming, Dubs. I’m being dead*ss. On God, I’m streaming.” It was too late, and the slur has already led to his suspension from Faze Clan Activities.

According to Dotsports, Dubs immediately issued an apology, stating, “I can’t even describe how sorry I am.” He continued.“I did not intend to be hurtful in any way but what I said was still hurtful, insensitive, and wrong. The word shouldn’t have been in my vocabulary, and I apologize from the bottom my heart to everyone I offended by using it.”

In response to Dub’s behavior, FaZe Clan released a statement to condemn his behavior and take action against him. The statement says,” FaZe Clan will not tolerate any form of hate speech. It is imperative for us to foster an inclusive environment in this community. Due to his actions, we are suspending Dubs indefinitely from representing FaZe Clan while in professional competition, streaming, or posting on his social channels. We are requiring Dubs to go through sensitivity training, and proactively requiring all FaZe Clan members to go through sensitivity training immediately.”

Dubs was signed to FaZe last year and is one of the best players in the world, having qualified for the Fortnite World Cup as a solo and a duo. Despite his apology and suspension, Twitter users have been calling out Dubs for his comment and suggesting that he doesn’t regret what he said, he just regrets getting caught. Jeff Leach, the voice of Ghost in Modern Warfare said,” You fucking idiot. That word only slips out if it’s a go-to in your normal vocab anyway. I’ve never ‘slipped that word out’ and most other folks haven’t either. Go donate some money to an African American charity if you’re truly sorry. #BlackHistoryMonth2020.”

Others are supporting him with kindness, saying it was a mistake and that he is young. Gamer Tfue had this to say when asked about it on his stream. “Just because someone says the n-word doesn’t mean they’re racist. Like, I don’t think f**king Dubs is obviously racist. But it is f**king weird that he would say it, like, you know? In his off time, you know?” He goes on to say,” “When we’re kids, we all do dumb s**t, so.”

Hate speech is against Twitch rules and it remains to be seen if any action will be taken on their behalf. In the past, they have been criticized for not enforcing the rules and it will be interesting to see how things play out. Regardless of whether he is banned from Twitch, it’s likely that he will lose a large chunk of money due to his suspension.

FaZe Clan is no stranger to controversy in recent times. In November another member, Jarvis was banned from Fortnite for life by Epic Games for using aimbots during a match. Before the Fortnite World Cup, another FaZe Clan player, H1ghsky1 was banned from Twitch for lying about his age when it was found out that he was just 11. Last May, another player, Tfue sued FaZe Clan, alleging that they were inhibiting his ability to “pursue his profession.” In November, FaZe Banks was also investigated for trashing a Las Vegas hotel room.

There’s no doubt that Dubs was wrong to use such hurtful language, whether streaming or not. At 16 he is still young and has a lot to learn about life. He seems sincere in his apology and hopefully, he’s learned a valuable lesson that will make him a better person. From the looks of things, FaZe Clan also needs to get their act together because having so many controversies is giving them a bad name and will hurt their brand.
