FIFA 20 TOTW 27 FUT Update: Latest news for PS4, Xbox and PC players

Late last week, EA Sports announced that the FIFA 20 Team Of The Week 27 (TOTW 27) will not be released on Wednesday 18 March.

Obviously this is because the ongoing coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) which has rendered all real-world football matches suspended across the world.

And as FIFA fans well know, the weekly TOTW is based on performances from real-world games. So if Pierre Emerick Aubameyang bangs in a hat trick, he's got a good shot of being picked.

But with no matches, there are no players to pick from.

Instead, it appears that EA Sports will have some new content that is yet to be announced but will presumably be revealed today at around 3pm GMT when we would normally see the Team of the Week squad announced.

Here's the full announcement from Electronic Arts:

“We will not be releasing TOTW 27 due to the ongoing suspensions of football leagues around the world. However, it will be replaced with player content available in packs and via FUT Champions Player Picks from next week. This is an ever-changing situation and one we’re working hard to adapt to as we move forward. We’ll have more information on this and other upcoming content next week.”

It's widely expected that the game will use player picks allowing gamers to choose between an assortment of players from previous TOTW lineups.

It's also possible that they might use a selection of players from the various FUT promotions over the past few months, such as Future Stars, Winter Refresh, Shapeshifters or Libertadores players.

This sounds a little bit like the games Player Days promotion, which essentially allowed EA Sports to roll out some of the most highly rated cards all over again.

We doubt the Player Picks will use the most highly rated players, but it could be a good option to re-release some mid-tier players who are still highly coveted.

What impact this will have on the overall FUT Transfer Market is also another factor that as of yet hasn't been mentioned.

Stay tuned, we should see more information released later today from EA Sports.
