Destiny 2: Beyond Light Pre-Load Begins Tonight, Make Sure You’ve Got Enough Storage
It’s the day before a big expansion, and that means Bungie will be taking down Destiny 2’s servers starting at 7 PM PST (10 PM EST). They won’t be coming back online until noon on November 10 when hopefully they’ll have Beyond Light fully installed on everyone’s computers.
That is, of course, provided everything goes smoothly. Unforeseen delays have become a standard feature of expansions in Destiny 2, so everyone should cross their fingers.
Pre-loading is also available for Beyond Light for those who want to get a head start on downloading the latest expansion. PlayStation 4 owners can already download the new patch, while Xbox One and PC players will have to wait until tonight at 9 PM PST (12 PM EST). The update should automatically download on both those platforms, but you might need to head into Steam to encourage it to load first ahead of other game updates.
You’ll also need quite a bit of storage to download Beyond Light on PC and PS4. Even though the overall file for Destiny 2 is expected to shrink by 30-40% with Beyond Light, because there is so much being updated, it was easier to just have everyone download the entire game all over again and then delete the old files after the download is complete.
On the PS4 and PC, this means you’ll need between 171 and 186 GB of total storage space (which also includes the original files). Xbox One owners won’t have this problem and will instead just need the 65.7 GB required for Beyond Light, which is also the final installation size on that platform.
Xbox Series X/S and PS5 owners won’t have this storage problem at all as Beyond Light will be entirely fresh for both next-gen consoles.
The new expansion brings all-new Darkness-based subclasses to Destiny 2, along with a brand new campaign, new player onboarding, and seasonal activity for free-to-play players, not to mention some graphical enhancements. Get ready to go Beyond Light starting tomorrow afternoon.
