Cyberpunk 2077 class action lawsuits combine to form one mega court case
CD Projekt are getting sued by so many people they’ve all teamed up together to pool their resources into one giant-sized lawsuit.
Cyberpunk 2077 is always going to be remembered as one of the most disastrous video game launches of all time and the ramifications of that are far from over.
Although the top brass at CD Projekt still got their bonuses the company is facing four class action lawsuits in the US. Or rather it was. Now they’ve all joined up together to form one massive lawsuit, since they all have basically the same complaint.
The surprising thing though, is that these aren’t disgruntled fans but investors who feel they were lied to by CD Projekt, about the state of Cyberpunk 2077 on consoles.
The investors are upset that they lost money as a result of CD Projekt’s stock price dropping, once the game’s reception became clear and sales started to plummet.
A class lawsuit is one that anyone affected by the same complaint can join if they have evidence, which is why so many different ones quickly sprung up last year.
In the video game world these are normally fans complaining about broken games, and yet less than one in 10 players asked for a refund of Cyberpunk 2077.
That probably implies they couldn’t be bothered rather than them being fully satisfied by the game, but it does suggest there’s still a healthy future for the franchise, if CD Projekt can avoid being sued into oblivion.
The next step for the game is supposed to be the enhanced, next gen console versions but little has been heard about that since launch and there’s still no release date for them.
That’s also the case for the game’s multiplayer mode, which at one point was intended to be a standalone game but now seems to be planned as DLC.
