Call Of Duty cheats will be banned from the entire franchise says Activision

Activision has updated its security policy for Call Of Duty: Vanguard so that cheaters can be banned from all games in the series.

With the news that Call Of Duty: Vanguard has had the series’ worst launch in over a decade there’s a rush to try and explain exactly why.

There are multiple reasons, from the Second World War setting to the increased competition this year, but one of the most influential is the level of cheating currently going on in the paid-for games and Warzone.

Activision has already announced stronger anti-cheat measure for Vanguard but now it’s warned that anyone banned from one of the games, including Warzone, could be banned from all of them.

Although that will seem like a good idea to those sick of losing out to obvious cheaters the wording of the policy is actually fairly vague.

‘Extreme or repeated violations of the security policy – such as in-game cheating – may result in a permanent suspension of all accounts. Additionally, any attempt to hide, disguise, or obfuscate your identity or the identity of your hardware devices may also result in a permanent suspension’, reads the official announcement.

‘Permanent suspensions for security infractions may now apply franchise wide, including Call of Duty: Vanguard as well as any past, present, and future titles in the Call of Duty franchise.’

No explanation is given for why cheating wouldn’t result in a complete ban, which unfortunately means that many cheaters are still likely to try their luck.

‘All our anti-cheat efforts are focused on fighting unfair play and protecting the player experience’, insists Activision. ‘Launching the server updates as part of the Ricochet Anti-Cheat system is the first step in our new anti-cheat security initiative and we’re working hard to make things as frustrating as possible for cheaters.’

Whether this works or not is one thing but the other problem for Activision is fighting the perception that the game is overrun by cheats, whether it is or not.

It’s often impossible to tell for certain whether someone is cheating or not and if players go into a game thinking it’s riddled with cheaters then they’re more likely to claim an ordinary loss was unfair.
