Engineers in Battlefield 2042 are now a defensive class, utilizing powerful gadgets to prevent attackers from gaining the upper hand. There are two Engineers as of 2042's launch: Irish and Pyotr "Boris" Guskovsky.

Boris is one of the strongest Specialists in Battlefield 2042, capable of taking on multiple infantry soldiers at once with his trusty turret. Not only does this turret damage enemies, but it also spots enemies from quite a far distance. A few Boris Specialists can work together to lock down defense objectives or mow down infantry with ease. This guide will cover what makes Boris special, explain how his turret works, and provide some tips on how to use Boris effectively.

GadgetSG-36 Sentry Gun: Engages nearby hostiles
PassiveSentry Operator: Nearby Sentry Guns are more effective

Boris is an excellent Specialist for just about every activity. His SG-36 Sentry Gun dishes out a respectable amount of damage and marks targets for Boris, making it much easier to eliminate targets. If Boris is defending an objective or needs more firepower, Sentry Operator makes any nearby Sentry Guns perform much better.

While Boris isn't a traditional Engineer from past Battlefield titles, he is a phenomenal character that excels at just about everything. Nothing gets past Boris or his trusty turret, no one.

Gadget And Passive

SG-36 Sentry Gun

Boris can deploy an SG-36 Sentry Gun anywhere on the battlefield. This turret will lock onto targets in its cone of vision, marking them for Boris and opening fire if the target is in the open. Sentry Guns can mark targets behind walls, allowing Boris to mimic Paik's gadget. The effective range of the turret is difficult to measure, but it's quite large.

The damage output from the Sentry Gun is quite low, although this can be improved by using the Sentry Operator passive. Enemies damaged by the Sentry Gun also move slower, making it much easier for Boris to land the final blow. SG-36 Sentry Gun only has one use, and its cooldown is quite long. Sentry Guns last until they're destroyed or recovered by Boris.

Sentry Operator

While Boris is standing within three meters of a Sentry Gun, that Sentry Gun can spot targets from further away and begins firing much sooner. Again, determining the range increase with this passive is difficult to measure, but this range boost is enough for your turret to acquire targets through walls. Its ability to start firing on targets sooner also means it's much more effective at slowing down and finishing targets. Fire alongside your turret to quickly drop enemy targets.

Tips And Tricks

  • Boris' Sentry Gun can spot targets through walls. Keep an eye on whoever your turret marks to gain the upper hand.
  • Don't stick with your turret unless you're in a safe location. Most enemies assume that Boris is near his turret, causing them to deploy explosives.
  • Boris and his Sentry Gun become much more effective when paired with a Ranger.
  • Consider playing alongside Irish to double down on your defensive capabilities.
