Verizon Named Foundational Sponsor of HBCU Esports League

Verizon has been named the foundational and first sponsor and official 5G partner of the HBCU Esports League. Last year Twitch partnered with Cxmmunity Gaming, a nonprofit dedicated to promoting and fostering the participation of people of color in esports and gaming. At the same time, Twitch was announced as the official streaming partner of the collegiate esports league. Verizon is also the official 5G and 4G LTE network partner of Twitch Rivals, the streaming platform’s popular competition series.

The companies also announced that on March 20 (4 p.m EST) they will host “the HBCU Esports League Verizon Celebrity Pro-Am,” a Fortnite-themed competition featuring students from participating HBCUs, celebrity athletes, and professional players.

Participants announced for the event include hip hop artist Big K.R.I.T., San Francisco 49ers quarterback Josh Johnson, Chicago Bears running back Tarik Cohen, WNBA players Aerial Powers and Allisha Gray, NBA players Iman Shumpert and Juwan Morgan, streamer The Black Hokage, and Team Liquid players Alixxa and AmandaTheJedi, XSET co-owner Erin Ashley Simon, FaZe Clan’s FaZe Bizzle and FaZe Faxuty, and many others. The event will air on Cxmmunity’s Twitch Channel.
