The final North American hope at the Minor falls as CR4ZY are elminated
Earlier today it was business associates that were the first
team to fall in both the StarLadder ImbaTV Dota 2 Minor Season 3 but there
would still be three more to be eliminated as the day continued.
BOOM Esports showed their strength today with an early
victory over business associates but they would need another victory to ensure
their progress forward at the Minor. Their opponents would be the CIS squad,
forZe Esports, who had also shown some promise in the opening days of the
tournament. forZe were able to stomp the Southeast Asian squad in the opening game
of the series, but then came the Randy ‘Dreamocel Sapoetra’s Anti-Mage, which destroyed
the home-ground squad and tied the series. Finally, BOOM managed to hang on
until their heroes found their farm and claim the victory.
From that, BOOM would secure themselves a spot in the
playoffs of the Minor, with their next opponent being Gambit Esports tomorrow. Sadly,
for forZe, their run would come to an end as they exit the tournament in fifth/sixth
place.
In Group B it was NoPing e-sports and CR4ZY who would battle
it out early in the day, with one team losing their tournament life and the
other getting a chance to fight Alliance to reach the playoffs. The Brazilian
squad had some extremely strong players in the squad, and they came out
fighting in the series, destroying CR4ZY in game one and setting themselves up
to hopefully move forward in the Minor. Unfortunately for the South Americans,
they stumbled as Jonathan ‘Bryle’ De Gula would assault them over the next two
games.
CR4ZY, being the final NA squad at the event now, would need
to surpass Alliance in the day’s final series, if they wanted to reach the top four
– while NoPing were eliminated in seventh/eighth place.
While considered one of the absolute favourites in the tournament, Alliance had not always looked at their best but just one series stood between them and the top four in Kiev. With their two new members, CR4ZY were hoping to keep the NA flag flying high in the event. However, that started off terribly as a Nikolay ‘Nikobaby’ Nikolov Faceless Void proved too strong for them in game one. Even with CR4ZY having a better second game, they were still unable to break through Alliance and would succumb to a 2-0 defeat.
With that, Alliance claim second seed spot in Group B and move forward into the top four, while the final hope for NA fades away at the Minor.
Tomorrow will see another array of series including the upper bracket finals and another team eliminated from the StarLadder ImbaTV Dota 2 Minor Season 3 as we work our way towards finding out the last attendee at ESL One Los Angeles 2020.
