Team Liquid reach the grand finals and miCKe delivers the highest critical hit in over 5 years of pro games

Team Liquid seem to have found their stride in the lower bracket rounds at ESL One Germany and after taking down the biggest threat of the tournament, Team Secret, they cut through mudgolems 2-0 in the lower bracket finals to secure their second grand finals appearance in the online season.

ESL One Germany lower bracket finals set the Dota 2 fans for a treat as the only two teams to have defeated Team Secret in the last five months went head to head for a spot into the grand finals. While mudgolems were the first to take down Secret, in the upper bracket semifinals, Liquid gave Secret the final blow in the lower bracket.

Last night’s series between mudgolems and Team Liquid started with a dominant performance from the latter, who allowed their opponents to play Storm Spirit and countered it perfectly with a beefy trio core. However, the second game was almost entirely controlled by mudgolems. They outsmarted Liquid in the draft and surprised them with a position 5 Bristleback for Adrian “Fata” Trinks, who became nearly impossible to kill. However, after a couple of mistakes and a few too greedy plays that led to losing a full lane of barracks in the mid lane and both tier four towers, Liquid understood that they needed to wait for their Phantom Assassin to purchase a Divine rapier and protect her at all costs.

The Rapier came into play at the 50 minute mark and unleashed the Liquid wrath after a Roshan pit team fight, where Michael “miCKe” Vu erased mudgolems’ six slotted Spectre in one hit. According to stats man Ben “Noxville” Steenhuisen, miCke’s hit of 4532 damage is the biggest crit in professional games since Dota 2 was ported to Source 2, in September 2015.

Following that Roshan fight, Liquid were able to march on mudgolems’ high ground and take the series 2-0 to secure themselves a best-of-five series against Natus Vincere for the ESL One Germany title. The grand finals are scheduled for today, November 1st at 17:00 CET.
