Seattle Surge fall short against Minnesota at CDL Los Angeles

After a roster change and several weeks of practice, the Seattle Surge looked to conquer Los Angeles — a feat that was seemingly possible with the other teams in their Call of Duty League (CDL) bracket. With both LA teams underperforming, the Minnesota Røkkr were the only thing standing between Seattle and a semi-final. However, they would have to beat them in round one to avoid the losers bracket. In an intense back-and-forth game, the Røkkr pulled ahead with a 3-1 win. While the Surge did manage to clutch a round 11 Search and Destroy, they fell in the respawns. The Seattle Surge would have to make a losers bracket run to make it to the semi-finals on Sunday.

The Surge flip the switch

Even after losing to the Røkkr, Seattle kept their heads high and looked to continue on against the Los Angeles Guerrillas later that night. The Guerrillas had just come off of a reverse sweep against OpTic Gaming who had just secured their first win of the season. Following a nine-hour gap between games, Seattle Surge swept the Guerrillas out of Los Angeles in dominant fashion.

Seattle’s newest member showed that he could keep up with the best. Casey “Pandur” Romano played out of his mind the entire weekend against Minnesota and the Los Angeles Guerrillas. Not far behind was Samuel “Octane” Larew who put up an astonishing 2.87 KD in the first match. Additionally, Bryan “Apathy” Zhelyazkov nearly broke the record for the highest kills in Search and Destroy. The soon-to-be dad dropped 15 kills and only two deaths in the seven rounds of map two.

Unfortunately, the Seattle Surge weren’t able to carry that same dominant momentum into Sunday. They once again faced the Minnesota Røkkr in the final decider match. After losing the first two maps, they made a comeback in Domination but ultimately couldn’t close it out. The Seattle Surge look to bounce back at the Dallas home series.
