LCS Spring Finals to be held online

With the spread of COVID-19 worldwide, Riot Games have taken the decision to move the LCS Spring Split finals to an online format, the company confirmed Thursday.

“We’re still planning on making the 2020 LCS Finals a memorable and exciting event for our teams, players, and fans on April 18-19,” LCS commissioner Chris Greeley said.

Together with the LEC, the LCS went on a week-long hiatus after week 7, but returned last weekend with an online format in attempt to preserve the health of players and staff as much as possible. There is one more week of regular season play left, which is to decide the majority of the playoffs slots, as the standings are wide open ahead of the final matches.

There has been no confirmation whether the LEC Spring Finals will also take place online, but that’ll likely be the case. The COVID-19 pandemic is even stronger in Europe and avoiding offline play even for the Finals is to be an expected decision from Riot.

Unlike the LCS, the LEC knows all six teams with playoffs spots and only the final seeding is to be decided.
