Geek Fam, Na'Vi and CR4ZY through to the WePlay! Charity Play Event regional grand finals
WeSave! Charity Play’s first day of online fixtures produced some wonderful Dota 2 action but for three teams involved, the tournament was already over as they lost their opening series.
WePlay! organised a magnificent event featuring 24 of the best Dota 2 teams in the world to fight in an online event to raise money to assist the efforts in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic. This event begun yesterday with the first few teams fighting in what is essentially the semi-final, where the losing team would be eliminated. Six teams from three separate regions played last night, with three of them being sent packing from the event; BOOM Esports, b8 and Cloud9 exiting the event after the first day of play.
For BOOM, the opposition was fierce, as they went up against one of the best teams in the SEA region, Geek Fam. While BOOM did manage to tie the series at one a piece, the experience of the GF lineup shone through at the end – sending the team into the SEA grand finals. For C9, things were not the same, as they really did not get off the mark, even after winning the first game of the series, they would be taken down by CR4ZY as the latter proceeded in the event. Finally, one of those massive series occurred with Danil ‘Dendi’ Ishutin going up against his ex-team, Natus Vincere. While Na’Vi had just confirmed their full roster, it was from enough to help them take down BP as they slumped out the WePlay! Charity Play event.
WePlay! Charity Play continues later today with the first series being a huge Chinese battle between Invictus Gaming and PSG.LGD to start things off. While the event has no effect on Dota 2 Pro Circuit standings, the prize pool and any donations received across the six days, all go towards two separate causes which are trying to alleviate the problems caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
