FLASHPOINT 1 will be played in Los Angeles due to coronavirus concerns, no more Stockholm

FLASHPOINT has revealed changes to their plans as the first iteration of the league will not be held as originally intended due to the coronavirus outbreak. The league will be held in Los Angeles for its entire duration now, not going to Stockholm for the playoffs as intended.

“In partnership with the CSPPA, FLASHPOINT has decided to change our plans for FLASHPOINT 1, and will host the event entirely in our Los Angeles studio,” the official announcement from FLASHPOINT read.

Being able to better ensure that the Los Angeles studio is a “controlled environment” is the reasoning behind it. This will FLASHPOINt to implement “strong policies and best practices to protect the players and our employees, while also avoiding incremental travel and interactions with fans,” FLASHPOINT said.

“We remain excited about the future of FLASHPOINT and look forward to bringing the event around the globe in full force after the Coronavirus threat is no longer an issue,” the announcement concluded.

This is just one of many events both in and out of esports that have made the decision to remove a live audience or cancel the event altogether following fears about the current coronavirus outbreak.

The Spring Finals of the League of Legends European Championship (LEC) and TwitchCon Amsterdam have also revealed changes with the former being moved from Budapest to the Berlin studio and the latter being canceled.

FLASHPOINT 1 will kick off on March 13 with 12 teams battling it out for the $1 million prize pool.
