ESL One on the Los Angeles Major: “We do not anticipate any external authorities requiring us to close the event”

ESL One released recently a statement regarding the upcoming Los Angeles Dota 2 Major to ensure the fans that the tournament “will happen as planned.”

In the aftermath of IEM Katowice where ESL was forced to revoke the access for the live audience, the LA Major organizers stated that the Shrine Auditorium in LA is “a private space not subject to public large gathering permits like in Katowice” and that they don’t anticipate the Los Angeles county authorities requiring them to close the event to the fans.

“As of now, the venue, the authorities, and ESL evaluate the event to be safe to attend,” stated ESL One, adding that they will do “upgrades to the already high hygiene standards of the venue,” as well as ensuring additional trained medical staff available on-site.

However, ESL One’s announcement was made before the local authorities declared a state of emergency in LA, as six new COVID-19 cases were discovered in the region.  Additionally, Los Angeles county officials are reportedly considering banning the fans from large sports events. “If at any point we think that there’s a good reason for us to be worried about extensive, extensive community transmission … we may ask for modifications at large public events. This could be that games are played but there are no spectators,” county health director Barbara Ferrer said according to Los Angeles Times.
